You don’t need Scouting experience, outdoors skills or spare evenings every week. If you can spare an hour now and then, we can find a role for you.
Ways to help
Every volunteer gets training, support and a great bunch of teammates. Four types of role to suit your availability and time to commit:
Section helper
Lend a hand at Squirrels or Beavers sessions – making tea, tying knots, joining the games. No badge of office needed and a few sessions a term is plenty.
Leader / assistant leader
Plan and run the programme with our leaders. Full training is provided and paid for – most of it online, at your own pace, around your life.
Trustee
Help run the group behind the scenes – finance, fundraising, buildings, policy. Board meetings are a few times a year, usually online.
Operational support
Help keep the group running behind the scenes with practical tasks like equipment maintenance, admin, media, or organising events – flexible support around your skills and availability.
Roles can be shared or job-shared, and many people start as helpers before moving on. Younger volunteers aged 14+ can join as Young Leaders.
What’s involved
- Chat with us – tell us what you’d enjoy; we’ll help you find a matching role.
- Join through the national system – a short application and an enhanced DBS check, arranged and paid for by the group.
- Learn as you go – essential training is online and quick, and it doesn’t stop there. Learning never stops at Scouts, whatever your age, and every course or skill along the way is paid for by the group – cost should never be what holds you back. We’re with you all the way.
