Uniform and badges
Our group necker is navy with a gold diagonal stripe (pictured), worn with the grey Scouts shirt. What to buy and where badges go, straight from the official source:
Second-hand uniform is often available – ask in the group email group if you need kit.
Fees and subscriptions
Fees are paid via Online Scout Manager (OSM) and cover badges, materials, activities and national membership.
Fee amounts are shared with enrolled parents by email and in OSM, not published here.
Ask the treasurer if fees are ever a problem – we’d rather help than lose a Scout.
Absences and changes
- Absence: reply to the weekly email or message your section leader.
- Last-minute changes (like a weather cancellation): urgent notices go by the parents’ WhatsApp group, then by email.
- Your details: update address, phone, medical or dietary information in OSM, or tell your leader.
Additional needs
Scouting is for every child. Tell us about your child’s needs when you join and we’ll plan together so they can take part fully.
Keeping children safe
Every adult with our young people is a trained volunteer with a DBS check. The national Scout Association sets the rules we all follow.
The welfare of children and young people is our priority. If in doubt, report it.
FAQ
Questions parents ask
How old does my child have to be?
Squirrels is for children aged 4–6 and Beavers for 6–8. Places are offered from the waiting list in age order.
How does the waiting list work?
Add your child on the Join us page. When a place comes up for their age group we contact you to arrange a visit.
What does it cost?
Fees are paid termly via Online Scout Manager. Amounts are shared with enrolled parents – ask us and we’ll happily tell you more.
What should my child wear or bring?
Uniform details are on the section pages and in your welcome email. For outdoor sessions add wellies, a coat and layers – leaders always say what’s needed.
What happens if a session is cancelled?
We cancel very rarely. You’ll hear on the parents’ WhatsApp group and by email as early as possible.
Can I stay and watch?
Parents usually drop off and pick up. From time to time we hold family nights and invite everyone along to join the fun.
How can I help without being a leader?
Lots of ways – see the Volunteer page for section helpers, trustees and occasional help.
How do I raise a concern or complaint?
Talk to your section leader first, or the Group Scout Leader. There is also a national process – see Keeping safe above.
